Last odds and ends

Been a busy couple of weeks of late, but mainly I worked on Russia getting all the last details in that I still had todo. Some of these fixes will make working on another level go faster as well, which is also a reason why I decided to finish Russia and it’s content 100% first before going back to the next level. You can view tweaks and bugs I fixed for the past two weeks in my changelists here and here.

I received Russia from Robert Briscoe about a year ago, and since then it’s gone through a lot of iterations to fit the Off Limits game play. After a lot of playtesting and design changes I’m glad to announce that the geometry is finally locked down. I’ll be posting some more stuff on all the changes I did to it when I finish the last remaining odds and ends.

Apart from all kinds of bug fixes and tweaks I also did a final pass on performance and sound. Since I made a minimap that shows an airfield I wanted to build on top of that and have the idea of some helicopters coming and going to the base with the impression that more troops are coming in as you are fighting your battle (since every dead person respawns they gotta come from somewhere right? :) ). So, I took the existing chopper model and made a low poly flying version which I placed above some areas that had transparent windows. They fly over the entire level and even in places where you don’t see them you will still hear them passing by. I made some recordings of the main areas where they will be seen:

So remember, keep looking up at the skies! Gaze with awe at how a chopper flies over your head, and in the meantime get shot to pieces and lose the match!
